(Late) Dr. John Lalremsiama Sailo Ryntathiang was a man of exceptional intelligence, fortitude, and compassion. Born on 10th October, 1951, at Dr. H. Gordon Roberts Hospital in Shillong, he was the eldest and only son of Captain Lalrinthanga Sailo and Kong Dicky Ryntathiang. As the son of an Indian Army officer, Dr. Sailo's childhood was characterized by constant movement, taking him to remote districts such as Tuensang, Nagaland and Subansiri, Lohit (formerly Mishmi Hills district), among others.

Dr. Sailo's academic prowess was evident early on in his life. He pursued his passion for medicine and graduated from the esteemed Assam Medical College, Dibrugarh and completed his internship in January 1976. Fondly known as Dr. Sailo, he then joined the Wellington Hospital, New Delhi, as a Junior Resident doctor in the Pediatrics department and the ENT department in 1976-1977. Dr. Sailo's dedication and commitment to the field of medicine led him to join the North Eastern Hill University (NEHU), Shillong, as a Medical Officer in 1979.

Dr. Sailo's academic thirst led him to pursue his Post Graduation in Medicine from the prestigious All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Delhi in 1983-86 and after which he continued his tenure in NEHU as a Senior Medical Officer from 1987 to 1991. In addition, he also visited the K.J.P (Roberts) Hospital, where he was born, as an Honorary Medical Specialist. After leaving his service with NEHU, Dr. Sailo set up his own private practice and diagnostic centre called "Bethany Medical Centre" in 1992. Dr. Sailo's passion for affordable healthcare for all culminated in the inauguration of a 100-bedded multi-specialty Bethany Hospital on February 16, 2002, where he served as the Proprietor, Promoter, and Director. His vision and mission were to provide affordable healthcare to all, and he remained committed to this cause throughout his life. Dr. Sailo's legacy extends beyond medicine. He was a man of exceptional character, who dedicated his life to serving others. His brilliance, kindness, and unwavering commitment to excellence will continue to inspire generations to come.
